Comments:

After discharge from U.S. Navy Reserve in 1967 I went to work for a steel mill. After that I worked for various metal processors/distributors as outside sales and sales management.

School Story:

It was recess, junior year. We were throwing a tennis ball against the wall. The ball ended up on the roof, we leaned railroad ties against the wall to be able to climb on the roof (only one story high). Robert Periello fell on the way down, landed on the hood of a car. Robert was unhurt but the hood of the car was completely crushed. The one and only time I was in D.K. Pittman’s office , we went to confess. Mr . Pittman congratulated us for our honesty. Four families split the cost of the repair. The car belonged to one of the cafeteria workers. No one ever learned that that was our third trip to get on the roof that day.

Tomorrow, March 1st, is the one year anniversary of the night I came home from bible study , discovered a thief in my house and shot him.
7;45 PM was a dark night. I drove up my driveway and was confronted with a car blocking the entrance to my garage. Looking inside the car I recognized some of my property- "THAT'S MY STUFF!" I looked around the corner where the backdoor is located. It was wide open and all the lights were blazing. "HE's STILL IN MY HOUSE!" I rushed back to my car and dialed 911. I was talking to 911 when the thief came out and started walking toward me. He was dressed completely in black and had a black t-shirt wrapped around his head. I couldn't see his face or his eyes. as he walked towards me I started walking backwards away from him at the same pace. Not a word was said. I had an intense feeling of being threatened to the core of my being. I have a concealed carry license, I drew my pistol and pointed it straight at him. It didn't phase him, he kept walking towards me . I pulled the trigger, orange blast , NO EFFECT! The bullet was defective, no powder just the primer. The bullet hit him but didn't penetrate. It's called a "squib round". I tried to shoot again but the pistol was jammed . I bluffed: " You take another step and I'm going to shoot you again." "You didn't have to shoot me" he said. "You didn't have to break into my house" I retorted. "I gotta call my wife " he said. He leaned against his car with his cell phone. "Honey, I've been shot. I don't know what hospital they'll take me to but I'll call you when I get there." Pause. "In the sternum" he said. The police later told me the bullet hadn't penetrated. The last time I saw him was when he was being loaded in the ambulance. I was handcuffed and taken to the sheriff's department . I was released , I was a little nervous because "Your case will be brought before a Grand Jury to rule if it was a justified use of lethal force." All's well that ends well. The thief, Edward Daughterly, stayed in jail until early November when he made bail. Last I hear he had "Been offered 11 years for him to serve 45%". All of my stuff from his car was returned to me . He was taking mostly guns and ammunition. I reloaded my pistol with a different brand- Federal HST.
